HIGHLAND GAMES

The great Scottish interactive team building experience

Highland games were traditionally held by Scottish Clan Chiefs to test their Men’s strengths. Observing their performance, the Chief would decide who was best suited for different tasks. The fastest runner would become the messenger, and the strongest men would become the warriors.

Today, the Highland Games are still enjoyed by Athletes who train to compete for Scottish and international prizes.

We utilise the challenges of Highland games for

We don’t expect anyone to have any prior experience, so these events are designed for complete beginners, both male and female.

We work with Scottish Highland Games Athletes to show participants how to perform the different activities. We frequently work with three Highland Games Champions, Pete Hart, Steven King and Bruce Robb. Pete clinched the British Heavyweight win for 56lb weight over a bar at the Lochcarron Games in 2013. 6’6, 20-stone Bruce Robb is a champion of the Strathmore, Aberdeen, and North Berwick Games, whilst Steven is a former 16 and 22lb hammer World record holder and current 22lb Scottish Hammer champion.

Our Highland Games

A fun day away from the office to help increase motivation and boost morale for staff, and for teambuilding and bonding between work groups.

The group is split into clans, who compete in around 4-8 Highland Games activities, collecting points as they go.

Activities include:

  • Tossing the Caber
  • Hurling the Hammer
  • Scots Stone putt
  • Bagpipe masterclass
  • Scottish dancing workshop
  • Whisky tasting note challenge
  • Throwing the Wellie
  • Farmers Dash
  • Haggis Shy
  • Stag hoopla

Usually, the guests have 20-25 minutes at each activity and rotate to try them all. Which should leave them feeling empowered, with new skills under their belts, and a feeling of being very Scottish.

It is also a great opportunity to get some great photos and videos of the group in a different situation from normal, and meet some local athletes, musicians and dancers!

When the activities are complete, the points are added up  and the winning Clan is then crowned the Chieftain Champion

We have several great Complementary activities:

Reel Time can source an appropriate location in Edinburgh, Glasgow, the Borders, Perth and St Andrews. Or if you are staying in a suitable location, we can bring the Highland Games to your Scottish Hotel or Country Estate.

A typical event lasts around 2-3 hours. Refreshments and a waterproof poncho are included. A lunch stop or BBQ can also be provided.

To find out more, and get a quote for your group Highland Games, do get in touch and let us know a few details on a number of participants, where you would like this to take place, and the date you would like it to happen.

Indoor Highland Games

If it is cold outside, or you have too many guests to take to an outside venue, then we can bring the Highland Games to you! We bring our range of Highland Games activities to your conference centre or hotel suite. This can work well as fun Scottish activities over a networking session, as a Scottish breakout session, or as a teambuilding activity.

We swap wood cabers for foam, grass for astroturf, and stones for slam balls. All the indoor activities are fully managed to happen in a safe inside and are also a great way to meet the locals and learn some Scottish skills.

Have a look at our Indoor Highland Games page for more details.

Reel Time holds full public liability insurance for these events.
